Abstract

Component-Based Software Engineering(CBSE) is a process emphasizing on the design and construction of computer-based systems using reusable software components. Nowadays, component based development is very important due to its reusability characteristics, cost effectiveness and reduces time development. Due to this reason. CBSE is seen as a suitable way to develop software effectively while assuring higher quality and reliability than can be achieved through current software development. This project aims to develop e-commerce software based on CBSE. The absence of readily available library of components has resulted in reusing components from existing software, Java Pet store e-commerce software discovered in domain analysis. A prototype of e-commerce software has been developed for Wasaniaga Sdn Bhd using reusable components from Java Pet Store. This prototype is developed based on GBSE methodology and UML as modeling language . J2EE technology with servlet and JSP as scripting language and Cloudscape as database is used to develop the prototype. The experience in GBSE development using Java Pet Store has been discussed along with the advantages and also the disadvantages of reusing its components. It is hoped that through the shared experience of CBSE development,it can be used as a basis for other CBSE development in the near future.
