Abstract

XML or known as Extensilre Mark-up Language is a language similar to HTML in that it allows data to be represented by enclosing information between tags. However, XML differs from HTML because the data in XML documents is enclosed between user defined tags, with this advantage, it allows for a great deal of flexibility in designing the format of the document. For example, the XML flexibility of the XML structure allows null fields to be omitted from the data. Only those fields that actually contain data need to be included in the XML document. This application of Translator is developed with main objective to study how files that contains with text format 'doc, 'xls,'mdb and .dbo translated to XML document. It also function in generating XML schema which is XSD (XML, schema Definition) to ensure the content of generated XML document is well-formed and valid. The development of this Translator also one of the alternative in solving the use of wide disk space by generate XML documents with reduced size based on XML formats. The designing structure of the system consist of user level, server level and source data/ database level- while from development methodology aspect, this application is based on prototype evolusion model which use the object oriented technique. The technology of XML language (Extensible Markup Language) and Microsoft Visual Basis.NET programming language is used for designing the engine and the interface of this application.
