Abstract

A rapid progress of the technology of the information system and Internet, make our life easier and more productive, but at the same time there is some people out there who like to take the advantage of this technology to do the malicious things. So, there is a need for a system that can block certain access and at the same time being the Internet accelerator. That is why this project was proposed as a thesis to developed, a Proxy System Using Squid and was developed on Linux platform. As an Internet accelerator, it is a full featured web caching proxy server daemon. The system allows your server to save local copies of distant web object. When these objects are access again by anyone on the local network, the object will load faster and will not consume more bandwidth fetching the object again from the origin server. This can relieve strain on crowded networks and provide a more responsive network environment overall. Another benefit of using this system, if that of access control, the system provide extensive capabilities for blocking access to certain sites, users, networks, types of data content, etc. It is can operate in transparent mode, traditional proxy mode, and reverse proxy (httpd accelerator) mode.
