The government has encouraged SMIs/SMEs to adopt in their firms in order to be more competitive and be able to penetrate global markets.Therefore,the purpose of this project is to evaluate the factors that influence top management in adopting IT in SMIs/SMEs. An in-depth study is carried out to access perception on IT and its usage,benefit analysis, organization readiness and external pressure which could influence IT adoption Top management's attitude and decision making process will also be the focus of this study. Survey questionnaires would be able used as main method of data gathering technique. This study was conducted on 31 SMIs/SMEs in the food sector which are registered with the SMI Association of Malaysia obtained from The Official Business of Directory of SMI Association of Malaysia. This study shows that top managements play important role in IT adoption decision making.This study also suggest that factors such as perception of IT,benefit analysis,organization readiness and external pressure also influence IT adoption. A theoretical framework is suggested to help SMs/SMEs to adopt IT.
